HR Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
to review and/or write articles
iWorkwell, Inc.
www.iworkwell.com
Job description:
iWorkwell is always interested in meeting and working with experts in any area of HR. iWorkwell is looking for:
- Highly knowledgeable/experienced employment lawyers and HR experts to do a 'quality control' review of iWorkwell's existing articles, to ensure they are up-to-date, accurate, and of the highest standard. The task is to read the articles and give us specific modifications and recommendations about: a) each individual article, and b) the section overall (e.g., what's missing what should we add or do next to improve it).
- A larger number of HR experts and employment lawyers to write new articles for our "HR Navigator" section. [If you already have a bunch of articles, white papers, newsletters, legal updates, etc., that you have written in the past, we may be able to re-purpose them: together, you and iWorkwell can edit as necessary to make them consistent with the rest of our HR Navigator content in terms of style/structure/length, etc., before posting them on our site.]
iWorkwell's "HR Navigator" articles:
They appear in a section of the iWorkwell website called "HR Navigator" a large and ever-growing library of instructional articles for everything you need to know and do in HR. We do not want editorials, news, speculations about pending legislation, or entertainment pieces. The goal of each article is to educate the reader explicitly on how to do something in HR. Unlike the opinion pieces, narratives and hard-to-read white papers elsewhere in magazines, newsletters or the web, iWorkwell articles are succinct and to the point (generally 800-2,000 words, though longer if necessary); they're action oriented, include checklists, and help the reader complete the task. Think of HR Navigator as a comprehensive cookbook: when you need to do X, you only need that recipe you don't read all of the other recipes from A to Z, and you don't have to be a master chef. The instructions are easy to digest and easy to follow, so that no matter who you are, you'll keep up with changes in the field, save time, and consistently follow best practices.
The work process:
You will exercise knowledge/judgment about the content, but not need to agonize over the style/word-smithing. A separate copy-editor will perform final stylistic editing (but not change the meaning) with "track changes" turned on. You will then review any tracked changes to ensure the correct meaning has been preserved, as well as perform a final read-through of the whole article and make any remaining edits so that you are 100% happy with the final product. (Someone else will then post the article on the live website.)
Why would consultants, labor/employment attorneys or HR professionals want to be iWorkwell authors?
Authoring HR Navigator articles will get your name out there, as experts. Many lawyers and consultants understand the importance of this and are doing this type of work already. The difference is, iWorkwell's HR Navigator articles are actually read and followed by a diverse, national audience using the site on a daily/weekly basis. Not only would your name/firm be listed at the bottom of every article you write, but if you do a handful we'll also list your paragraph-long bio sketch in our section called "iWorkwell's Experts." This provides good marketing/PR exposure to both your existing clients and to a wide base of potential new clients for you and your firm.
Compensation:
Paid as a contractor-consultant. Like other members of our network of experts (including those who are General Counsel & VP of HR at major organizations with professional credentials such as J.D., Ph.D.), you will be compensated on the following basis:
- $100 for articles which you research & write from scratch, or completely rewrite from existing articles or drafts;
- $75 per article where you perform heavy content changes to an existing article or draft;
- $50 per article where you make some content changes;
- $20 per article that you review and make minor or no content changes.
To apply:
